About the event
Ojos de Dios, or God's eyes were originally made by the Huichol, the indigenous people of what’s now western Mexico. The four points of the 'eye' were said to represent the four elements - earth, air, fire, and water.
God's eyes have been woven by many different cultures at Autumn, because this is the time when the Harvest God was said to be at his peak of life, before his symbolic death at the harvest, when he returns to the earth to be renewed over winter.
They were said to be powerful protective talismans, because the 'eye of the God' watches over you.
Come along, tamariki welcome, bring some little sticks if you can find them, and learn to do this simple and beautiful weaving.
These can be hung up around the house or in nature, or even made into mobiles!
