Riverbank Cleanup for Youth Peace Week

Youth Peace Week is a fantastic weeklong event, aiming to open discussion in kura and communities about ‘peace’ and to create a platform for new and creative ideas for ACTION towards a more peaceful world.

In 2023 this theme is “Community Connect- Project 4 Peace”. The idea is to build deeper connections within our communities and assist in creating a better place for us all to live.

At our Foraging Hīkoi along the riverbanks in Kaitaia, lots of us have noticed the amount of rubbish that is being left lying around. The riverbank is a fun place for kids to explore and play, and so much amazing learning and adventures are had on our hīkoi.

Alaina suggested we do a rubbish pick up for Youth Peace Week, and we reckon that's a great idea. Let's whakapai the riverbank, make it safer and more inviting for those gathering kai & rongoā, making nature crafts, exploring, and just spending time with our awa.
