What a fantastic day at the recent Local Foraging workshop held by Timebank member Nicky Jarman on 29June. It was a popular workshop and spaces filled up quickly with a maximum of 12 participants to allow for an intimate, friendly workshop where folk could engage in conversations, ask questions and get to know the other participants.
Nicky certainly knows her stuff, the amount of knowledge she has is very impressive and we were soaking it all up. The workshop started at Anō Anō - The Upcycle Space, where she brought along seaweeds from local beaches that we were able to taste, touch and smell. Fruits, nuts, plants that we can find locally in the area. Nicky explained ways to eat, cook and enjoy these incredible plants. The seaweed wasn't as salty as one would expect and was delicious! How empowering to learn where to locate local produce right on our doorstep! Nicky shared all the recipes and handouts with the participants so we can easily go home and remember all the details!
We were lucky with the weather which allowed the group to enjoy a 2 hour walk around Lake Ngatu to explore and locate local kai, they found 10 or so different edible plants that are easily found. It was a great chance for folk to connect, network, share stories and learn about our local produce. How fabulous to be a part of timebank and be able to attend such amazing workshops and use your Timecredits to attend.
Many thanks to Nicky for running a fabulous workshop and all who attended, it was an inspiring and informative day! The Foraging workshop will be repeated in Spring so if you would like to join in, please get in touch to secure your spot as spaces fill up fast.
