Community Garden Workshop and Working Bee

Coming up on Wednesday, 13 December 2023, is the Māra Kai Flood Relief Workshop and Working Bee at a Kaitaia property.

Our parent Trust, Tiaki Taiao was granted funds to support Flood Relief across the region. In the Te Hiku rohe, some of the Trust's share of the funds will be supporting a property in Kaitaia that was affected by the recent floods. The property and the entire road were cut off from Kaitaia town centre by a major road slip, and the entire road was without power for over a week. A community garden is an invaluable asset for local residents and the community, should any future major flooding occur. It also gets everyone together, sharing their valued time, which is what Timebank is all about.

A workshop for creating a community garden will be established at the Kaitaia property, with the support of gardening and permaculture experts. Seedlings will be planted, and soil created, with the intention of building resilience and working together to create support and connection. It's going to be fantastic!

The planting workshop starts at 10am and will run for 1 hour. Learn permaculture and be part of a community garden workshop, connect with other Timebankers, and enjoy the energy of the beautiful bush surroundings. If there are enough willing hands, a working bee at the property will follow- cutting bamboo, flower garden creating etc. All skills are welcome!

Workshop is 10am-11am and the Working Bee to follow until 12pm. Contact myself (Caryl) for more information on caryldwtttimebank@gmail.com
