Cosy, Colourful and Comfy - Felted Slipper making Workshop

Tai Tokerau Timebank in Whangārei hosted a felted slipper making workshop on Aug 9th at He Awhi Rito.

Whangārei Timebankers and non-members had heaps of fun at this workshop guided by Timebank member Shanti, who has very recently taught herself to make felt slippers. She was open to continue learning, so the workshop became a very collaborative process with suggestions on technique being shared.

Everyone brought some washed and carded fleece to work with, so there was a wild variety of bright colours. Making felt is quite a laborious process and the atmosphere of concentration was palpable! But at the same time the laughter and conversations flowed, as did copious amounts of water and soap, which is needed to work the fleece so the fibres mesh together.

Felting takes time and the workshop sadly wasn’t long enough for anyone to finish their slippers, so the process continues at home.

Keep an eye out for more Timebank workshops, socials and events in your rohe - they are a wonderful opportunity for members and non-members to come together, be creative, learn new skills and make new friendships.
