Ridding Kaitāia of single-use plastic, one bag at a time…

Plastic Free Kaitaia 2020 and Kai-tāia kete will be back at the Kaitāia market today 7th July, restocked with Kai-tāia kete and produce bags, thanks to our wonderful volunteers of the EcoCentre who have been flat out sewing. Please pop in to the EcoCentre (old lighthouse/Info centre by playground on South Rd) through the week (Mon-Fri 10-4) if you can help out at all with helping us keep up with demand!

Our Kai-tāia kete reusable shopping bags range in price from $3-$10 depending on size, style, material used etc. With a few bling bling bags going under silent auction.

Look out for our banner at the market, Plastic Free Kaitāia 2020 – Ridding Kaitāia of single-use plastic, one bag at a time. And I believe there may be a monster in our midst…..

Also next week, I’ll be at the Eco Centre on Monday 9th from 10am-1pm if anyone wants to pop in and say hi.

Wednesday 11th, 4pm-6pm, REAP we’ll be upcycling t-shirts and singlets etc into reusable bags.

Friday 13th, 6.30pm, REAP come and watch “From the Waste Up”, an entertaining documentary about families in Canada who go plastic free for a year

And don’t forget to start collecting drinking bottles, be they plastic, glass or aluminium from your neighbourhood to get a 10 cents refund for each at The Kiwi Bottle Drive, Saturday 14th, from 8am, Kaitaia market. MP Matt King will be present to help out. Note limit of $20 refund per person, drive will end when funds run out.

Thanks for your efforts, hope to see some of you at the market on Saturday, please introduce yourself.
