A total of 17 items were repaired and mended at the recent Kaitaia Repair Cafe on 29June at the Menz Shed. 17 items that have been given a new life and saved from ending up in the landfill and also keeping more $ in the owners' pockets by not needing to purchase a replacement.
Less waste = better place. A great moto from Repair Cafe NZ.
Many thanks to our skilled Timebank volunteers that make the Repair Cafe happen! Our new location is at the Menz Shed, next to Northland Waste and the Menz Shed are now a member of Timebank!
Repaired items this month:
Broken handle on garden rake
Clothing mended (4 items)
Soft toy
Winter jacket
Garden secateurs and 4 x loppers (sharpened)
2 x pairs of scissors
Re-chargeable battery charger
Knapsack bag
Pressure cooker
Pot handle
Caryl has been pruning her fruit trees at home with the sharpened garden tools, Pascal did a fantastic job of sharpening the loppers-they work a treat! It made the task faster and I'm sure the fruit trees will be showing signs of the TLC shown to them come Spring.
Anna was extremely pleased with the outcome of the pressure cooker which had some years on it. The lid wasn't quite fitting as it should, so the team took to the challenge of fixing it. It took some perseverance, but it paid off as Pascal ground away the pot to allow for the lid to fit snuggly. Many delicious meals ahead for Anna! Nice to see treasured old kitchen equipment carry on for a few more years ahead.
Pat brought in a garden rake with a broken handle, it was a nice easy fix with a larger screw to fasten the wooden handle.
We'd love to see more folk bring down their items to be repaired. Remember Timebank members can pay in Timecredits, and enjoy a cuppa and tasty treat while you're there! Come in and check out the new venue and have a chat. Happening every last Saturday of the month from 10.30-12.30pm.
